Hayashiko Procession

You can only appreciate this event with its over 500-year history in Iinan Town and the surrounding area. Children and adults wearing beautiful Hanagasa, a hat decorated with artificial flowers, and yukata, or summer kimono, parade through town playing flutes and drums. This event takes place at various shrines, however, the most famous procession is the autumn festival held at Yuki Hachimangu Shrine in Tonbara, Iinan Town, which has been designated as an intangible folklore cultural asset of Shimane Prefecture. Many visitors and photographers assemble to watch this procession during the afternoon. This event is always held on the same day every year – November 7 – which is a factor that makes it easy for visitors to plan to be there.
