Traditional Performing Arts and Light Ceremony

This is the largest event of Matsuoyama Hachimangu Shrine. The main pillar of the inner shrine in Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine has been dedicated from this area. This festival demonstrates a range of different aspects of Japanese culture including “Ohayashi”, festival music played as part of a ritual to invoke a successful harvest that uses drums to drive disasters away, and “Kagura”, Shinto music and dance, which have their origin in Japanese mythology and that is played to entertain the people. Local volunteers make over 3,000 bamboo lanterns for this event. Gods and demons dance to Kagura music in the shrine filled with fantastic lights. You will be mesmerized by this mythical event.
